Are We Serious?

A break from the workout numbers today. I feel the need to vent. And doing so on Facebook is only going to do two things. 1) Piss off half my friend's list, and 2) Make me even more annoyed. So Blogger it is! And those that can find it, can read it, and argue with me on here. The list is much shorter, so there won't be so many people to fight off.
So by now, we are all aware of the horrible shooting in Connecticut yesterday morning (were you also aware that in China yesterday, some crazy wielding a knife attacked 22 children and an elderly woman?). There are two things, in particular, going around on Facebook today that are just pissing me off to no end. The first, gun control, either pro or against. And the second, some form of bad things happen in schools because God isn't allowed in schools.
I cannot believe that so many people are using this to push their agenda. It's been a fsking DAY, people. How freaking callous can you be? Let these poor families mourn before you start spewing from the mouth. Just have some freaking respect.

Let's start with the guns. You cannot take away people's rights to own a gun. Making them illegal isn't going to stop the bad guys from getting guns. And what you'll have, is a bunch of unarmed citizens who can't protect themselves if the event arises. I'm not saying every Joe Smith should be able to get an automatic weapon (and from what little I've investigated, the rules on getting those weapons are pretty strict--though, I haven't done enough research to say with certainty that I believe that 100%. And the last thing I need right now is someone in a black suit knocking on my door because I was Googling about getting automatic weapons). I mean, think about it. Drugs are illegal. Does that stop people? Law abiding citizens, yes. But the people that don't care? Hell no. People need to be careful with their firearms. Take precautions. Lock them up. But, the government doesn't need to take them away from them. And arming teachers? A little extreme.
Next, the God in school thing. This one... I just don't even know where to start. How does this even make sense, in this particular circumstance? It seems like an entirely different argument completely. Allowing God in school won't stop these things. Better security measures will prevent these tragedies. No visitors outside the office. Metal detectors at the doors. Let's take some of the budget and secure our schools! Our children shouldn't be afraid to go to school. Our parents shouldn't be afraid to send them.
And, before I get any hate, I am not Christian, but I have no problem with allowing God in schools--to an extent. Pledge of Allegiance? Cool with me. Allowing a moment for silent prayer? Fine with me (if your kid doesn't pray, they can just be respectful and stay silent for a few moments). Allowing kids to carry their Bible with them (or whatever holy book they may have)? Absolutely! Allowing for pre and after school prayer groups/Bible study? Go for it! The only problem I have with it, and it's not for the reason you might think, is teaching it in class. I don't think a religious class in a high school setting is a big deal, because high schoolers aren't going to be influenced as easily. I wouldn't want someone teaching something like that to my elementary student. I feel like that is my job, as the parent. And then you run into being fair. I know from experience, that there has to be so many students signing up for a class to happen (which is why I got suckered in AP Calculus my senior year). So, if there are only 4 or 5 Jewish kids, they won't have enough to offer the class. Whereas, you know there will be enough Christian students. So, there would have to be something more like a World Religion class, where they just learn about the different religions of the world. Honestly, this idea I like. Knowledge leads to less ignorance, and that is always a good thing.
Anyway.
I know I just went and threw my opinions out there, after bitching that others were. I'm not doing so in the same fashion, though. I have no agenda. I am just, utterly heartbroken for all those families. No one should be planning their babies funeral this close to Christmas, especially because of an event like this.

And for the love of all that is good, can we please, PLEASE focus on the victims. Don't immortalize this piece of scum that took their lives. Mr. Morgan Freeman said it best:

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Distur

bed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem."

(Update: Haha, internet. You got me. Above quote is not by Mr. Freeman, but that doesn't change the truth I feel is behind it.)

NF Week One

Hi! /wave
So, I completed week one of the new strategy. I even remembered to take measurements this time, so, I'll have something else to look and compare other than what the scale says.
I found that everything except push-ups on the planned workout were relatively easy. So, some I added reps to it. The push-ups still kick my ass, but I'll work up to it. I told Sarge tonight that my goal is to be able to do a pull-up. He says, "Just one? *laugh*" "Well, yeah." XD

Okay, so the workout is supposed to be 20 body weight squats, 10 push-ups, 20 walking lunges, 10 dumbbell rows, a 15 second plank, and 30 jumping jacks. Three times. No stopping between movements, and just long enough to get a drink of water between circuits. Each time, you're supposed to try to do just one more. Supposed to be about getting stronger.
My push-ups as of now are on my knees. >.> And starting Wednesday, I took Sarge's advice and kept my elbows in (a bit harder. Go ahead. Try it.). I'm also only using 5 lb weights for my dumbbell rows. I need to get a heavier set. For now, this will do. Because they are so light, I doubled the reps.

Monday Weigh-In: 152.8

I tried a lot harder to watch my food. Not so much how much I'm eating, but what. I think I've got a handle on the crazy snacking. Now, trying to shift to better choices. We did have Thanksgiving leftovers this week... >.> This will be easier after the holidays.

Monday: 2 coffee, banana, 5 pretzels, some turkey, 1.5 cup stuffing, apple slice, banana, some grapes, 1 cookie, grilled cheese on whole wheat, 1.5 cup stuffing, gallon of water, bowl ice cream

Tuesday: 2 coffee, 3 fried eggs, apple, small salad with turkey and dried cranberries, a few more pieces of turkey for a snack, an apple, a slice of roast beef, 2 cups of roast veggies (onion, carrots, potatoes), 3/4 cup steamed cauliflower, a large piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream, 96+ oz water

Wednesday: 3.5 coffee, 3 fried eggs with tabasco, small banana, 1/2 lowfat yogurt, piece of quiche, 1 cup broccoli/cauliflower/carrot with cheese, some turkey, roast beef sandwich with peppers/onions and cheese, 1.5 cups roast veggies, a tablespoon of peanut butter, 96+ oz water

Thursday: 3 coffee, 3 fried eggs, 2 slices pumpkin bread, 1/3 lowfat yogurt, 1 cup steamed cauliflower with cheese, a raisin bagel with cream cheese, a roast beef sandwich, 1 cup roast veggies, a few pretzels sticks, a glass of wine, 96+ oz water

Friday: 3 coffee, 3 fried eggs, 2 slices pumpkin bread, 1/3 lowfat yogurt, bowl of roast beef, slice pumpkin pie, roast beef sandwich, 2 cups broc/caul/carrots with cheese, 96+ oz water, slice of pie

Sooo... minus the pie... not terrible. We have junk left over from the Christmas party we had on Saturday, though. I don't know why people bring sweets and then don't take them home. -_- I'd throw it in the trash, but I'd feel bad. Something about wasting food just doesn't work with me. Oh well. Will just have to work a bit harder this week, I suppose. :)
Anywho, shall see how this goes. I guess after a few weeks, I'll be able to fully recommend it or not. The work out is really no joke. And, it's nice and planned out for those who aren't sure where to start. They have a really nice forum there to help you, too. (Alright, off my promoting soap box!)
Until next week!

Reconfiguration

Hi! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. :) I enjoyed our time with Sarge's parents, and had a nice quiet birthday at home. And, if you hadn't noticed, did take the week off from food journaling and working out. I weighed in the beginning of last week at a whopping 148.6! Of course... heh, food happened. So, this week's weigh in wasn't so low. It's okay, though. I expected it.
This week, I am trying something new! I have posted before about Nerd Fitness. Well, this week starts a 6 week challenge to see if I can get better results trying something new. So, no more elliptical charts. I'm starting with the beginner body weight workout. I did it today, and it's a bit easy... so, I'll be upping my reps, I think. My goal is to be able to do the pushups for real, not on my knees. And, I'd like to up my weight on the dumbbell rows--although that means finding a new weight, ha.
I took measurements and new pictures--which, probably won't get posted, ha. But they will be a good reference to see if this works well.
I'm also making some small diet changes. I would LOVE to go Paleo or some other variation of it, but it's not in the budget. So, I'll just be trying to consume more protein (because looking back, I don't get very much daily), and less junk.
So, anywho, that's the update for now. Take care!

Thirty-One Weeks

Hola!
Before I start, we have family coming in on Sunday for a week. And they are staying with us. Like, in our home staying with us. No escape from each other, ha. So, I'm thinking of taking a week hiatus from the blog/project. Sarge knows what I'm doing, but I don't really feel like explaining to my FIL why I'm writing down every thing I eat. And heaven knows how busy I'll be all week. I have to entertain them solo Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday  we're going up to Sarge's school, plus I have to start pre-Thanksgiving cooking, and Thursday, we're hosting a big dinner at our house. My first. Ought to be interesting... Friday, no shopping for me. I hope MIL doesn't want to go. It's an hour or two to any real stores... lol. And Saturday, well Saturday is my MFing birthday. :D
So, with that said, onto this week's numbers.

Join the Rebellion!

Okay, so, what the hell, yeah?
A lady friend gave me a link to this website, which is pretty neat. Staci in particular was an interesting read. Makes me want to get some better weights and get at it. However... probably not the wisest investment when you're trying to get pregnant. Unless it takes 6+ months longer, I'll have to stop when I find out. Might be something I look into trying once I have the next kid.
However, for all you single, no new-baby peoples, this is awesome. Lots of support and ideas on this website. It might really be something you look into.

Oh, and check out Saint. Holy cow!

And one more, Veronica. She's a SAHM of two. If she can lose the weight, so can you, my mommy friends!

Which means he's home by noon, and I absolutely refuse to work out in front of him--unless it's the elliptical. Somehow, less self-conscious up there. Don't know why. Anyway, will see!
Until next time!

Twenty-Eight!

I realize that yet again, it's almost the end of the week, and I haven't posted last week's. I'm awful. That's all. Ha. So after a whole week of no exercise...

Monday Weigh-In: 152.4 (+0 lbs!)

I was surprised, too. Haha. Last week was a bit better on the work-out front, though, not my best week. By Wednesday, I felt like I could get back to it and not worry about not being able to breathe.

Twenty-seven?

Yeah, I know. Week twenty-eight is almost done, and I'm just posting last week. Sue me. ;)
Last week was... well, lackluster to say the least. I did not work out. At all. Seriously. Hoping that's the last of the sinus infections for the year. The good news? Didn't gain! Not an ounce. XD

Monday Weigh-In: 152.4 (+1.2lbs)

By Wednesday, I was 150 even, but this past Monday when I weighed in, it was back to the same. So... could have been worse.
I did keep in line with the food intake. It was probably my saving grace. Not working out + stuffing yourself = failure.
There was some good news from last week. No longer babysitting.

Monday: 1 coffee, 2 serving oatmeal, 1/2 banana, tootsie roll, chicken fajita wrap, 6 honey wheat pretzel twists, chicken alfredo w/ fettuccine noodles, 1 cup mixed veggies, 96+ ounces water, and a handful of M&MS

Tuesday: 2 coffee, 2 fried eggs, 1 English muffin with butter, large plate of chicken alfredo, 1/4 cup mixed veggies, a few honey wheat pretzels, a burrito w/ black bean and corn salsa, handful Cheerios, gallon of water

Wednesday: 2 coffee, 1 English muffin with butter, handful dried cranberries, medium romaine salad with black bean and corn salsa, banana, 4 no-bake cookies, taco salad w/ black bean and corn salsa, gallon of water

Thursday: 1.5 coffee, 1.5 serving oatmeal, 1/2 banana, 1/4 cup bowtie pasta with alfredo sauce, 1/2 cup mixed veggies, 1 chicken nugget, 3 no-bakes, a few tortilla chips, 2 no-bake cookies, small glass milk, 2 french toast, fried potatoes (waaaaay more than I needed. Just know that XD), 96 ounces water

Friday: 2 coffee, fajita sized quesodilla, 2 no-bake cookies, handful dry cereal, 1.5 cup white rice, 1.5 cup chicken and vegetable stir-fry mix, gallon of water, 2 no-bakes

Several no-bake cookies (will post the recipe if anyone wants it), but other than that, not too bad. Anywho. I'm off. Until next time!

Week Twenty-six

Late posting, again. Go figure. I've got some sort of sinus junk, so I've been lazy the past few days. Blaming it on being in dusty buildings all day Saturday (we went to a handful on antique stores), and the wonky weather. I need it to go away. I had a dream someone called me fat last night, and I know it's my subconscious telling me to get the fsk back in gear. I haven't worked out since Thursday. >.>

Monday Weigh-In: 151.2 (-0.4 lbs apparently our trip didn't do as much damage as I thought!)

Monday: Not sure. We were traveling. I know we had Chick-fil-A for breakfast, some nasty chicken strips and fries at this little diner for lunch, and eggs and toast for dinner.

Tuesday: 2 coffee, 2 serving oatmeal, a bite of waffle, 1 cup white rice, 1/2 cup peas, handful dried cranberries, popcorn, a bowl of chili with cheese, 10 saltines, a few goldfish, a gallon of water

Wednesday: 2 coffee, 2 serving oatmeal, 1/2 Eggo waffle, 1 cup rice, 3/4 cup peas, handful dried pomegranates, plate of goulash, a few honey wheat pretzel twists, 96+ ounces of water, a glass of wine

I felt so gross after the McDonalds on Friday. Had a FRG meeting there because of the playplace. Should have just waited to eat, lol. Oh well.
Until next week!

Home Sweet Home

About two weeks ago, I turn to Sarge and ask, "Can we go home on the next four-day?" Meaning, on the next long weekend, will he drive us 6.5 hrs back to Tennessee. And, so we did this past weekend. I lived in the same town for 15 years before we came here (well, minus the eight month stint we did in MI before we got married when Sarge went Reserve...), and I desperately missed it. Which, to be honest, I never thought I would. Like, ever. I was so ready to move. Experience new things. See another part of the country.
But, then we got stuck here, lost in the woods, and I couldn't help but miss the stinky town (no, seriously. One of the rivers that flows through town smells like death. You can't escape it). When people ask me how I like it here, where we are now, I simple answer, "I don't." And, I realized this weekend exactly why. I miss the availability, having options, knowing that there will be something open after 5 o'clock, and open on the weekends. Here, unless I want to drive 45+ minutes down the interstate, or heaven forbid some back roads that aren't always on the GPS, I'm stuck with very few options. It's frustrating. Can't even find a good crafting store here! And while everything can be bought online, it takes the fun out of it.
The town I'm from, just throwing this out there, has five Walmarts within 30 minutes of each other. Which, you think would be overkill, but they are always busy. There are like seven high schools. The population in 2010 was 130,000+ (not counting the post and surrounding communities). It's the ninth fastest growing city in the US. The city outside here is, somewhere between 2,000-4,000 people. Kiiiind of a big drop. It's pretty here, and there are a lot of things to do outdoors, but where's my flippin' Target??? Other mommy's will get it. I just want to get a slushie, and meander around the store for a bit. Don't judge me.

Anyway, back to the trip. Sarge and I both spent a loooong time there, so, seeing everyone in 2.5 days is impossible. It just won't happen. So, we did our best to spend time with those who were are the closest to, and tried not to over-extend ourselves. I did get to see my bestie.
(Her makeup always looks better than mine! I seriously need to find a good eyeliner...)

And, we got to spend time with my "adopted" family. They were not aware that I was coming down. Well, Mom was. It was a surprise for everyone else. They always surprise me, so it was my turn.
Had a twin moment. Showed up in the same shirt.

Dropped into my old job, the one I had for seven years, the first job I ever had, yeah, that one. I got to see some old co-workers. I miss them. Not the job, but them, yes. :) It was good to see how they were, even if only for a few minutes. They, of course, kept asking when I'm coming back. They are silly.
We also got to check in with Sarge's sister, and see her kids. That was fun. Mini-Sarge had a blast the whole weekend. He did not want to leave, and threw such a fit today, all day. I will be glad to have him back in his routine. >.> It's really the only bad part of vacation: The ripple effect it has on everything else with him. Here's to it only being like a day to get it back to as it was.

Don't know when we'll be able to go back, but I did enjoy the time we did get to spend. My advice to all of you who live in a place where there "isn't anything to do," even though there really is, is to appreciate it. Because you never know...
Until next time!

Twenty-five Weeks

Hello! Another week down. Another blog to write. This past week was... odd. We left Friday on a trip (possible other blog post if I get to it!), so Friday no work-out, and totally did not keep track of all the crap we ate while on the rode. I seriously need to start packing things so we can skip the fast food and prepackaged crap while we're traveling. We got back this afternoon, and I feel like utter crap from all the garbage we ate. I also didn't get a chance to workout on Thursday, due to some scheduling issues, and because I had a list a mile long to complete before we left. Just didn't fit. Only good thing is, I think I did pretty good M-W, and, I'll do what I can to make up for it this week. I'm scared to weigh myself in the morning. I know I packed on a few pounds. >.>

Friday: ???? I know I had about 2 cups of coffee, we ate at a McDonalds for breakfast, had a salad and a dinner roll for lunch, and we had scrambled eggs, gravy and biscuits and tomato slices for dinner. I didn't drink nearly enough water, and consumed more tea/soda/juice/sugar this past weekend than I have had in about 6 months. x.x Wheeeeee. Time to get back on it.

Until next week! Hope anyone who is following through with a workout/dieting goal is sticking with it. :)

Twenty-four?

And a rockin' twenty-four. I worked really hard this week, and I'm proud to have gotten quite a bit done. Still not enough to magically transform into say, this lady

Heh, but, still doing good. I was examining myself in the mirror and during stretches and stuff on Monday, and decided I wanted to target some problem areas. I thought, "I should Google exercises for inner thighs." I got half of the word "exercise" typed into Google's search bar, and the first auto-completed search was "exercises for inner thighs." It's scary how well Google knows things. Creepy, actually. And no, I've never searched for that before. Google is just creepy like that.

Monday Weigh-In: 152.8 (-1.0lb)

One of these days, I'm going to break 150 and stay under it. >.>

I guess I'll see on Monday if any of this did any good. Well, anything significant, I suppose. It sure didn't hurt anything, so it's good on some level. Will try to keep it up next week. Well, through Thursday. We're taking a trip on Friday. ;) If I remember to take pictures, I'll make a special blog for it. I'm excited!
Until next time!

Twenty Three!

Hi! Decided, in the attempt to not be so late again, to post this week's tonight. I'm done stuffing my face. XD

Been a pretty good week. My thumb/wrist has been horrible, but generally just in the morning. I've been feeling fine come the afternoon/workout time. I've also been managing to workout on the elliptical on the days when I babysit the little two-year old girl I've been watching. Before, she was sleeping in the living room, or not sleeping at all, or she'd fall asleep and immediately Mini-Sarge would wake. I think, we've gotten into a good routine now. Fingers crossed. :)
Ah, and Wednesday, I was interrupted. I got 15 minutes into the elliptical and animal control showed up outside my house. By the time I got him to go away, the machine had wiped my progress and I was too angry to start again. Not going to rant about that right now, just wanted to explaaaaain.

Anywho, cheat week is done. I'll try to update Sunday for this week. Hopefully, I can get caught up and back on track. Until then!

Twenty One

Hello, all!
Sad to report that this past week wasn't much better on the work-out front. My knee has finally succumbed to the tendonitus that plagues most of my other joints. I will say, I am surprised that I made it this far without an injury that halted me. I won't be doing any time on the elliptical this coming week, nor any squats or lunges. I need to let it rest. I will try to stay on top of the mat work, though. I don't want to undo all that has been undone.

TWENTY!

Twenty whole weeks! I took pictures to compare to my starting pictures, but, I'm not sure I'm ready to share. Maybe a few more weeks, lol.
I didn't really manage to get much done this week. My joints are failing me. I hurt last week so bad. My tendonitis has made its way into my knees. Joy. And for some reason, my wrists have started acting up. This coming week, week 21, I'm going to focus mostly on getting the elliptical done--give my wrists/elbows/shoulders a break.

Hi! Another long week past. Wednesday and Thursday I was busy preparing/cooking food for 100 (although, we didn't have 100 people show up to the lunch on Thursday, but we were prepared for it!). Wednesday, I also watched a sweet 6 month old and her older brother. So uh, yeah, didn't work out Wed/Thurs. Sucks, but, it didn't push me back at all in the weight department, so, no worries. I think I easily burned those 250-300 calories that I would have on the elliptical with all the extra work, heh. And, Friday, Sarge lost his ring in this pit of shredded tires... so we had to drive to the next biggest town, get a metal detector and go get it after he got off work. So, Burger King for dinner. Augh! XD
